چکیده

EPIs (I-IIa), corresponding FA maps without (I-IIb), with eddy-correction (I-IIc and I-IId) and the final FA maps with comprehensive distortion correction (III): For comparison, eddy correction was performed with the proposed calibration method (c) and FSL (d) and the results were compared with an reference image without distortion (IIIa). To verify the correction quality more easily, the enlarged images of the anterior areas (B) from the FOV images (A) were calculated and red-contours calculated from the enlarged reference image (B-IIIb) were overlaided onto the enlarged final FA maps (IIIc-i and IIId-i).

Distortion correction in spinal cord DTI: What’s the best approach?

Introduction Susceptibility artifacts induced by B0-field inhomogeneities are common issue in echo planar imaging (EPI). They are particularly problematic in the spinal cord region, inducing large geometric and intensity distortions [1]. Although non-EPI techniques could be used instead [2], ultra fast imaging is sometimes a requirement in protocols such as in high angular resolution diffusion ...

Correction of B0 susceptibility induced distortion in diffusion-weighted images using large-deformation diffeomorphic metric mapping.

Geometric distortion caused by B0 inhomogeneity is one of the most important problems for diffusion-weighted images (DWI) using single-shot, echo planar imaging (SS-EPI). In this study, large-deformation, diffeomorphic metric mapping (LDDMM) algorithm has been tested for the correction of geometric distortion in diffusion tensor images (DTI). Based on data from nine normal subjects, the amount ...

Accelerated Point Spread Function Mapping Using Compressed Sensing for EPI Geometric Distortion Correction

Introduction: Single-shot echo-planar imaging (EPI) is a fast technique allowing the acquisition of an image following a single RF excitation. The high temporal resolution of EPI makes it the method of choice for applications such as fMRI or diffusion tensor imaging. However, EPI is prone to geometric and intensity distortions in the presence of magnetic field inhomogeneities. Several correctio...

Ultra-high resolution diffusion tensor imaging of the microscopic pathways of the medial temporal lobe

Diseases involving the medial temporal lobes (MTL) such as Alzheimer's disease and mesial temporal sclerosis pose an ongoing diagnostic challenge because of the difficulty in identifying conclusive imaging features, particularly in pre-clinical states. Abnormal neuronal connectivity may be present in the circuitry of the MTL, but current techniques cannot reliably detect those abnormalities. Di...

Distortion Correction in EPI Using an Extended PSF Method with a Reversed Phase Gradient Approach

In echo-planar imaging (EPI), such as commonly used for functional MRI (fMRI) and diffusion-tensor imaging (DTI), compressed distortion is a more difficult challenge than local stretching as spatial information can be lost in strongly compressed areas. In addition, the effects are more severe at ultra-high field (UHF) such as 7T due to increased field inhomogeneity. To resolve this problem, two...
